Following ++Corion's link (in "Re: How do we set debug to our suit") to "Readline Support / History in the Debugger", I noted that I'd had issues installing the same modules that are listed there.

I was installing these for the cpan utility, not the debugger; however, as they're the same modules, it shouldn't matter what they're ultimately used for.

I resolved all issues and documented what I did: if you also experience installation problems, you might find some help in "cpan: Terminal does not support AddHistory.".
