One of the most underutilized aspects of Perl Monks is the number of great discussions contained in the "archives." I enjoy randomly viewing the nodes from the past (try it), but it's rather hit and miss. The Best Nodes list is a good way to hit a few great nodes from the past, but I suspect that sitting just below the Best Nodes threshold is a treasure-trove of good stuff.

I propose a "view more" link off of the Best Nodes of all time list, that would show the next highest batch of nodes. These nodes could be shown without their rep, similar to the way you can view an individual's nodes ranked by rep. I haven't decided if there should be a new cutoff for this list (say a rep of 100), or if you could "view more" your way through all the nodes.

Since I'm now on the development team I'd be willing to attempt an implementation of this functionality if others would find it useful (and not objectionable.) Unfortunately, I'm still getting my feet wet in this new role, but it might be a good feature for me to jump in with.

So, do people think this is a good idea? Would it peel back too much of the dont-know-the-rep-before-you-vote curtain? Would people use it if it was available?

    I'd go one step further and add this ReadMoreButtontm to all sections. I can't remember right now where I was missing such a way to march through the archives but I had this problem once (or have I just been too stupid to find it? Right now I can't see a section w/o the Next/More/WhateverYouCallItButton).
    It should always be possible to find older things besides by using the Super Search. Maybe even some kind of History Browser with a really nifty and practical engine whichIcan'tthinkofmyselfbutsomemonkswillhaveideas...

    Sounds like a good idea. Also please include a non-linear interface to the results - it could be a chore to work backwards from the top node going through every node along the way. Eg, allow users to go straight to node #59.

    Perhaps the answer would be to add an option to list nodes which have higher than a certain reputation, but not list what their reputation is?

      You would be effectively listing their reputations. For instance, if a post has a reputation of 58, but I don't know, but that function is implemented:
      • Cutoff = 0. Node in list.
      • Cutoff = 1. Node in list.
      • Cutoff = 2. Node in list.
      • ...
      • Cutoff = 57. Node in list.
      • Cutoff = 58. Node not in list.
      So now I know.

        I was thinking that the reputation limit would be fixed (somewhere around 60?), mabye with more than one cutoff limit (40, 50 & 60?). That way, the number of good nodes available in the list would increase over time and not get "stagnant" with the top N all time greats, and not too many nodes' reputations could be given away (not that the reputations would be listed - just that it would be difficult to figure them out).
