in reply to Ability to mark specific "newest nodes" nodes as read

Like Lanx I prefer Recently Active Threads as my stepping off point. I open threads I'm interested in in a new browser tab then click the "I've checked all these" button. Since RAT only shows threads with new stuff that provides a pretty good initial filter.

And the four view options for threads make it even better customizable

Current View Mode is (Root and Node), switch to (Minimal Nodes), (Node Ancestors) or (Full Thread)

See Recently Active Threads Faqlet for more

Thanks for the comments. I agree that "Recent Threads" has some nice info and configurability, but for just checking if there is a new node I think I still prefer "Newest Nodes". I don't think my original suggestion is that important and I like the simplicity of "Newest Nodes" as is.
One thing not mentioned yet is that HTML offers this since the earliest days, and already visited links have at least another color.

The effect is subtle², since I'm a bit color blind, but I'm pretty sure one just needs to adjust the CSS settings⁴ for "visited" (?) to change colors or other attributes.

Dunno the right CSS code for that, but other monks and search engines might help.¹

Disclaimer: this won't help if you use multiple browsers tho.³

        ¹) "visited" it is: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/:visited

²) and probably watered down by color settings for different creation dates.

³) and you'll have to open each post individually for them to be "visited"

⁴) in Display Settings or RAT Style Settings . Additionally Newest Nodes Settings might be of interest too.

Maybe try "minimal" view on RAT, to combine the benefits of both worlds

        Minimal

This node just shows the sample set just like Newest Nodes would but with notes grouped into their sections and possibly threaded.
