in reply to poll ideas quest 2025

When you first encountered Perl, which feature amazed you the most?

Alex / talexb / Toronto

For a long time, I had a link in my .sig going to Groklaw. I heard that as of December 2024, this link is dead. Still, thanks to PJ for all your work, we owe you so much. RIP Groklaw -- 2003 to 2013.

while perlmonks.com-connection was refused, perlmonks.org did work. does this answer your question sufficiently?

I've lost too many brain cells since I started using perl to remember why I started using perl (of all the things I've lost I miss my mind the most.) It was probably the string handling or report capabilities (format) or maybe the ability to get a lot done with just a little code.

90% of every Perl application is already written.
