    Yeah! Take that, nerds!!

I never liked the proposed changes for Perl 6 from Perl 5. Never. When i heard about them 10 years i decided it was not a language for me. Unfortunately, there are too many "nerds" here that get very upset (and downvote as a knee-jerk reaction) when folks remind them that Perl 6 has still not been released. I always thought being a "nerd" was a good thing. :)

UPDATE: yes runrig. I intentionally replied with the full understanding of the risk. I disagree with Anony and feel that we should be proud of our posts. I have been listening to/reading Perl 6 teases like this for 10 years now. I don't find it to be coincidence that Perl 5 has lost so much market share during this time. Our community was divided because of Perl 6.

My post was amusing and identifiable. The anonymous one was neither. Perl6 is fun. It’s a peculiar thing in human beings that what others do in their free time, hurting no one, can be such a source of irritation, even moral outrage, for some persons.

Update: How many times you gonna silently rewrite your post? Two rewrites so far… I love and use Perl5 every single day. I apologize that being interested in Perl6 offends you. I’ll try to tone down my rhetoric. I know how out of control I get when I’m on off-brand coffee products. Goddamn robusta, every time.

I'm not downvoting the right or wrong...I'm downvoting the namecalling and trolling. I actually upvoted Jenda's post.
BTW, thank you for logging in this time, although I'm not entirely sure it was intentional.

Perl 6 has quite possibly been the biggest failure among programming languages.
You didn't read the parent post, did you? According to it, even with the backing of the DoD and commercial vendors, Ada still failed. No matter how much or how little progress Perl 6 makes, I still wouldn't give it the title of biggest failure.

Just to make sure ... do YOU consider Ada a failure or not?

Being totally outside my radar, I don't have much of an opinion either way (same with Perl 6), but I'd have to lean toward saying that it fails at being a mainstream popular (as in being used outside of defense) programming language. Though that might not be an entirely bad thing (say, as opposed to PHP).
