Programming never was in my job description until this new job, but about half of the work I did was coding (Perl) for the better part of 12 years. I absolutely love Perl.

That said, I am really liking Python as well. Only been using it for about three months, but it was exceptionally easy to grasp, and I'm already doing most of the advanced things I've done in Perl with the new language.

I find the 'everything is an object' to be very intuitive and handy. Perl6 has this model as well, but I don't think it's too far into the wild as of yet. I also like the fact how spacing is what separates blocks, and that very few line terminators and sigils are necessary (code looks cleaner and more streamlined).

All in all, Perl is still and will always be my favourite, but I am finding that people who bash Python probably haven't given it a fair chance ;)

And I feel even more sorry for you for posting that. It shows just how insecure you really are.
Hmm, I usually simply don't even answer to people who hide behind "anonymous monk" for this type of comment (I think I have posted as anonymous monk only once, the very first time I posted on Perl Monks, because I wasn't yet aware of the color codes on PM and I did not realize I was not logged in).

My post above was just a joke (with a smiley, just in case it wasn't obvious). You're a poor fellow if you don't understand that, I really feel sorry for you. And, to tell the truth, I have used Python for a few years before I moved to Perl, so that I do know quite a bit what I am talking about and I am fairly secure about what I am saying.

Jokes that need a smiley to show they are jokes are poor jokes. If someone has gainful employment doing Python you should be happy for them, not sorry. And the best part -- your contributions to this thread are as follows:

        • "I really feel sorry for you. ;-)"
        • "How is your program supposed to guess what to add to make the phone number complete?"
In other words -- jack squat. Try adding useful content next time, Mr. Secure.
      um, dude, chilax
