twv has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Being somewhat unclear just what the protocol might be in these waters, I post this as a new query instead of some sort of follow-up to a previous post

Having successfully installed Strawberry perl, upon advice I attempted to install Tk via 'cpan Tk'. this resulted in some lines of gibberish seemingly indicating that things were going well until...

Updating database file ...
Done!Warning: Cannot install Tk, don't know what it is.
Try the command

i \tk\

to find matching identifiers.

I have no idea just what 'i\tk\' is supposed to do but, on my tackle, it's not recognized as a legitimate command.

Upon other advice I downloaded what appears to be Tk from bribes.com which gave me a tar file with over 2200 files in it. I have no idea just what I should do with this.

I tried some other recommendations, none of which worked. So here I sit, in need of Tk or a reasonable facsimile thereof and finding it thus far beyond my admittedly rather tenuous grasp. Please help.

Understand that anything smelling of systems programming is to me what a cross is to a vampire. I've always had a staff to deal with those sorts of things, so be gentle.

Odd! I installed Tk using cpan on Windows 8.1 against a 64 bit build of Perl 5.20.2 a few days ago without any trouble. Note that case is important for the module name: Tk. At a 'cmd' command prompt I entered:

    cpan Tk

A lot of stuff got built but no further interaction was required. Can you run the module install again and report the output?

    To install via ppm:
    ppm install http://www.sisyphusion.tk/ppm/Tk.ppd --force

(AFAICT, the bribes repo is for 32-bit perl builds only.)

Tk should also install on Strawberry Perl using 'cpan'.
Whenever I install via cpan, I specify the '-i' switch:
    cpan -i Tk

I don't know whether the '-i' switch is (or even ought to be) necessary.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    i \tk\
I bet the slashes are the other way 'round. Most probably you misspelled Tk as tk. The correct spelling is uppercase 'T', lowercase 'k'.

cpan Tk will work but cpan tk won't -- you should run cpan Tk like copy/paste if you can't type a capital T

To paraphrase some character or another from 'The Godfather': "Do not insult someone whose capabilities are unknown to you."

And, yes, that was my error. Since retiring from the big iron some years back, case has meant little in the world in which I find myself and I'm in the habit of ignoring it. Just so you know; 'cpan Tk' worked just fine.
