Your original answer sums up perfectly why I am mystified when someone calls me a pessimist. I would never, on my worst, lowest day tell someone, not even someone I hated: Do not "aim high." Encouraging mediocrity may be old hat but you ought to take a long drive to the mountains or something to reflect on what it says about the ones who do it.

"I never said that being a truck driver was a delightful career path. However, it is one that is protected."

This is not true. I am reminding you (yet again) that losing your license is the end of your truck driving career. http://www.dmv.org/articles/traffic-ticket-and-dui-penalties-for-commercial-drivers/

Recommending truck driving over programming in the 21st century is not only ludicrous, it is reckless. If you don't want to go to college, you can still program.
