I am interested in this stuff but I don't really care to see single links to outside sources, especially self-promotion, unless it's Perl news. Content is better placed here where it's in context and less likely to 404 down the road. FWIW, I didn't vote on this or your last post but would probably start downvoting these as is.

Links to external articles is pretty much the majority of the current purpose of the Perl News section. I guess your "unless it is Perl news" is an attempt to say that you don't find this "newsworthy" enough. I find it to be Perl-related news and appreciate the link and the description, whether I decide to follow the link or not.
I believe that encouraging awareness of Perl-related writing is likely a net good for the Perl community and want to see PerlMonks to continue aiding that. And waiting for something other than "self promotion" is usually going to be a long wait, IME, making the links less like "Perl News".
If you hate self-promotion, please start promoting Perl-related writing by other people. Since I see precious little of that, I think we need to not try to ban self promotion.
Of course, if the link is to an article of poor quality or that seems to have a purpose more about some type of spam or scam rather than honest writing about Perl, then certainly complain.

Your view is more or less mine. I am absolutely the last person here who would suggest banning; I stood up for wassercrackers and AnonymousHater—and probably even Logicus, though I don't recall specifically if I did—being left alone to serve whatever role they serve in the ecosystem. You ascribed words to me like "ban" and "hate" and that's as inaccurate as it is unfair; plenty of things I actually do hate in life and I wouldn't advocate banning any of it. I also said, well, implied pretty clearly, I'd rather see the whole article here.
I post news when I see it as either fun or worth reading. You're right, it doesn't happen much but I do it as much as anymonk so you're preaching to the choir and misinterpreting the mild distaste I expressed for this particular flavor of soup out of courtesy to this particular chef.
