I am absolutely the last person here who would suggest banning; I stood up for wassercrackers and AnonymousHater—and probably even Logicus, though I don't recall specifically if I did—being left alone to serve whatever role they serve in the ecosystem. You ascribed words to me like "ban" and "hate" and that's as inaccurate as it is unfair; plenty of things I actually do hate in life and I wouldn't advocate banning any of it. I post news when I see it as either fun or worth reading. You're right, it doesn't happen much but I do it as much as anymonk so you're preaching to the choir and misinterpreting the mild distaste I expressed for this particular flavor of soup out of courtesy to this particular chef.

Well, it is unfortunate that you took such issue with my use of specific words. I sincerely regret my word choice. Please mentally replace "hate" with "dislike" and "ban" with "wish they never get posted and do what I can to discourage such".

And I clearly implied that "hate" and "ban" were just maximally short placeholders for much more complex and nuanced concepts that I didn't want to try to describe in any detail, especially since doing so would involve, to some extent, trying to read your mind (which I was trying to keep to a minimum). Their position rather far down one end of a spectrum was to help indicate that they were intentionally hyperbolic to aid in conveying that they were chosen to indicate what half of what spectrum they represent and that the actual precise position on that spectrum was not of import (and not even known to me).

Well, it seems neither of those implications were clear to the other party.

"I'd rather you have posted your article here instead of just linking to it from here" is only a subset of "I may downvote you if you do this again." I'm fine with encouraging people to post at PerlMonks. But I disagree with threatening "punishment" for those who dare to post to other places and then to link to the results.

There are valid reasons to post other places. I don't think we should be discouraging the widening of the playing field for discussing Perl. Heck, something springing up that pretty much supplants PerlMonks would actually make me happy (no, Stack Overflow, for me, has not come close -- though I'm happy to have it as another, somewhat different, resource).
