Today seems to have been a remarkably slow day.

On the basis of nothing more than gut feel, it seemed to start out relatively normal for modern times; but then it tailed off to almost total inactivity around lunch GMT.

Two questions:

  1. Can my gut feel be confirmed by statistics?
  2. Was there any type of connectivity issue preventing people from posting?

No big deal, I'm just curious as a couple of other sites I visit daily suffered the vagaries of DDoS attacked today.

It would be interesting to have a few statistics (said the song of the actuary), perhaps in the Best/Worst Nodes pages, that show the last three to five days/weeks/months of posts, so we might see some sort of traffic pattern.

As these stats might be a bit of a drag on the database, I was thinking they could be generated on the same schedule as the Best/Worst Nodes, rather than instantaneously.

I do remember that weekends are quieter than the week, for obvious reasons, and the members of our community are spread around the globe, perhaps mostly centered in Europe and North America. So figuring out 'the last day' would probably translated into 'the last 24 hours'.

Sometimes, on a slow Sunday, I'll come up with an issue I'm working on and just throw a post on SoPW. However, a Monday so slow was kind of weird, and I didn't have anything to spam with :)

Some form of statistics would be nice, but I didn't think for a moment it was an issue with Perlmonks. That said, I did catch a 500 error this afternoon for a few minutes.

Whenever I am waiting for a compile; or a run; or simply need to stop and think before writing the next line of code; there are a bunch of tabs I tend to cycle through and refresh to see what if anything is new. This site is amongst them.

As is this one, which on All Hallows' Eve, became sluggish and unresponsive, which was later explained.

At roughly the same time, PM, whilst not unresponsive -- if anything the opposite -- apparently ceased to show any new input. Hence my question.

In part to see if I could actually post anything; in part, to see if there had been any systematic reason behind the lack of activity.
