I'll venture a guess..... someone sent you over to new user settings right? perhaps to change your signature? Anyway, there are two different ways to tinker with your user settings: user settings and new user settings (though the 'new' one is actually much older).

Unfortunately, the edit-my-sig box disappeared from user settings a while back, so people have been going to the older new user settings page to modify there sig. By some strange quirk, new user settings tends to munge your personal nodelette.

So, what advice do I have for you... I'm not sure, and I'm too timid to go mucking around with my nodelet to find out. You might try tinkering around with the forms on both user settings pages, perhaps one of them will work for you.
