Actually, I hadn't changed my user settings in a long time, probably a couple of months (last change was when the green theme became available). But I did try new user settings and got the same results. Well, maybe slightly different, but still didn't do what I wanted.

Beware, though: since visiting new user settings, my approval nodelet is gone! Maybe all that futzing around got me demoted....
