Given that I don't have access to IRC, the usual advice I got from chatter about going to some IRC channel to find out about issues didn't and can't work for me. I can only wonder how many other people are in a similar situation to me.

I did, based on past comments, go looking on JavaJunkies, but nobody was logged in and there seemed to be no posts about the PerlMonks situation. I didn't want to bother with creating an account, so I left again.
