It looks like it may be a problem in XML::Mini::Document. When I changed one of my items in my XML document from <address_2></address_2> to <address_2/> as shown in yours, it promptly lost the "2" from the end of the name.

Edit: I had some slashes in the wrong places.

That seems to be it - there is an unresolved bug report posted here: https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=50171 Fri Oct 02 14:07:24 2009 '<readonly/>' is translated in the generated hash to readonl. the 'y' is cut.	[reply]

Well that certainly would explain it! It is ironic that I switched from XML::Simple to XML::Mini for robustness. (I didn't realize that I was logged out when I last posted.) Thanks again everyone!	[reply]
