I often do the same thing you do, except less randomly. The Chatterbox is sorted by XP, so I'll start at the bottom and look to see whether someone new has posting anything worthy of an encouraging vote. This compenstates for the lazy habit I've developed of skimming Newest Nodes looking mostly at responses from people I know of.
