More than once I have voted ++ on different follow-up posts in a thread only to realize I just wasted a vote on an Anonymous Monk and can't get it back unless I reload the page before submitting and re-vote all my other selections. The same is true when I find a more accurate or informative reply farther down on the list that I think deserves my vote more. I'd like to see all ++/-- radio vote blocks become ++/0/-- blocks, defaulting to zero, so you can change your mind about voting midthread.

Under User Settings / Miscellaneous there is a "null vote" option that may be of some use.

    Why wasted it?
Can't a anonymous post not be as valuable as a non-anonymous?

Remember: It's not about XP, it's about Perl!

It's not wasted, but it is easy to lose sight of the fact that the XP system can be used (dare I say intended?) to recognize well-written, informative, and useful nodes as opposed to (merely) a kudos for the node author.

immediate UPDATE: Of course voting ++ on an AM could still be viewed as kudos for the author (if you wish); you simply don't know whom; as long as the author remembers the node and follows the thread.

Don't forget this part of the original post though...

The same is true when I find a more accurate or informative reply farther down on the list that I think deserves my vote more.

This has happened to me a couple times, and I've also wished for the "Clear" button.

I don't, as a rule, tend to vote posts by AMs, but I do make exceptions if the node is particularly good (or bad...). Each to his own. In any event, voting an AM post is never wasted, insofar as it contributes to the current value of $NORM, by which yardstick XP is gained and lost.

A lot of ink (bytes?) has been spilled on the issue of voting anonymous posts.
