Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have ActiveState Perl and DBI on my desktop, but i want to transfer these to my laptop which does not get connected to the internet. I have managed to transfer Perl but I cannot install the DBI or DBD modules. Is there someway I can install these without using PPM?

    "without using PPM"

Do you mean "without using PPM to install directly from the Internet"? If yes, there is a way. I've used it myself.

Search for the relevant .zip file on Active State's site. Download the .zip file, transfer it to the laptop, unzip it and read the readme file. You will need to have PPM locally on the laptop, but that should be the case if you have migrated the full Active State Perl installation.

If you don't have PPM at all on the laptop, then I have no clue how to solve your problem.

Everything went worng, just as foreseen.

You can install Cygwin on your laptop. You don't need to be connected to the Internet, as you can download all of the required packages on your desktop and transfer them.

Once Cygwin is up and running on your laptop, you can simply get Perl modules in .tar.gz format from your desktop and install them with `perl Makefile.PL.`

Or, you can install NuSphere MySQL which comes with MySQL, Apache, and Perl (with DBI and a bunch of other modules installed). That would probably be your best bet.

You can copy your perl directory from your desktop to your laptop.
