I am kinda in the middle with this because it adds clutter to the node you are looking at. But sometimes it is nice to go to the top. Also there really hasn't been a lot of tree'ing of the nodes. Plus a reply(2) to a reply(1) should be direct comment on reply(1)

    There ae already options to turn things off if you think your screen is getting cluttered. This would just be one more very useful option that people wouldn't have to put up with, if they don't want it - just turn it off.

    I disagree, I don't think a link will be any kind of clutter. It is, however, a difficult thing to determine. Each message is a child of a parent node, and that parent node need not be a message node. I haven't looked at the E2 code, but node-based messagebases usually take a huge hit if they have to recurse up the tree to determine their parent-of-parents.

    I think the banner ads and the images of people are more clutter than a text link.
