I really don't like that when I read a reply (especially a reply to a reply to a reply, etc...) I need to follow all the links backwards to the top node. I suggest a link for us to simply get to 'Top Of This node Tree'. Much of the time I want to read all the replies in one shot instead of going backwards.

Cheers,
KM

I agree see my post new format for newest nodes the second point is really about all nodes, although the subject doesn't make that clear.

    I really want this.

Baldrick, you wouldn't see a subtle plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord, singing "Subtle plans are here again!"

I think this would be great.
If a node is a reply to a reply to reply etc. it can take ages to get back to the home node.
At work this doesn't matter too much as internet access is free, but at home I have metered access and a slooooow connection ( I guess this is normal for most European countries). Being able to access the whole thread at once rather than having to reload page after page would save me a lot of time and a bit of money.

I am kinda in the middle with this because it adds clutter to the node you are looking at. But sometimes it is nice to go to the top. Also there really hasn't been a lot of tree'ing of the nodes. Plus a reply(2) to a reply(1) should be direct comment on reply(1)
There ae already options to turn things off if you think your screen is getting cluttered. This would just be one more very useful option that people wouldn't have to put up with, if they don't want it - just turn it off.

I disagree, I don't think a link will be any kind of clutter. It is, however, a difficult thing to determine. Each message is a child of a parent node, and that parent node need not be a message node. I haven't looked at the E2 code, but node-based messagebases usually take a huge hit if they have to recurse up the tree to determine their parent-of-parents.
I think the banner ads and the images of people are more clutter than a text link.
