I host my site (
http://www.c4home.com and also
http://www.e-vris.com) with
http://www.webhosting.com. The package includes these features:
- Virtula Host (not a dedicated server ;/ )
- CGI/Perl
- ASP
- Microsoft FrontPage Extensions (or whatever the actual name is.. as I haven't use this feature much :)
- ColdFusion (a real cool thing to have for raaaaapid development and deployment)
- MS Access Database
- Extensive site statistics etc.
and all this at a cost of around $75 (Canadian)/month. However, I'm anticipating to switch my database to Oracle and also aquire SSL, which supposedly would hicke up the rental cost a bit.
Having said that, however, I would not be willing to recommand my host to you. In fact, I'd rather look at picking another host myself. I would seriously consider a web host such as the
Sprocket Data, for example.
However, in my case, I'll have to do a lot of code writing before I could accommodate such a move. Although, I did use a fair amount of Perl code in my current sites, about 80% of pages are coded in ColdFusion. Being a rather simple development environment (scripting language is vary easy to grasp), rewriting various pieces of functionality on my site in Perl would be a tough and time-consuming job to do. Unfortunately, I may not have a lot of time to devote to this cause and might have no other option but stick with my existing client.
