|| (bug using $| within [])

I tried linking to perlvar with $| as its displayed text, so I tried [perlvar|$|], but only $ was displayed. I guess there's split /\|/, $foo somewhare. Can it please be changed to split /\|/, $foo, 2? (Or am I not seeing some evil hidden feature now? :)

Oh, and the title was supposed to render as `[\|\|]`, so I used `[\|\|]`, but apparently the preview page doesn't do a `s/&/&/g`, so squares bracket was sent anyway. Would be fun if that were fixed too. The root node in this thread is here (it's hard to click zero-width links).
