I know the company I'm working for has benefited greatly from Perl and will certainly benefit even more with the newer version of it (that is Perl 6). I'm not sure however where I should start in terms of pursuing my employer to sponsor the development efforts.

Are there any good resources on the web you could point me to? Say, something that would more or less clearly state the benefits of Perl (in general terms) to a web oriented business. The troubling task is bridging the gap between developers who find Perl primarily useful and the management. A few pointers on just how a developer should approach the management would be greatly appreciated ;).

This page discusses the publicity and "good will" benefits of donating. I suppose whether or not that helps depends partly on what your company does. My boss/CEO is a Perl programmer also, so I was fortunate and didn't have to do any convincing. :) - Matt Riffle	[reply]
