I might find it useful to have an option in Super Search to look for nodes which have been frontpaged or even frontpaged by a particular person or people. I don't know how hard it would be to implement but I'm guessing it wouldn't be hard at all.

Would any one else find this a worthwhile feature to have?

It seems pretty easy, but I can't think of a use for it. What do you have in mind?

      I guess something like

      Match nodes that were ( ) Frontpaged ( ) Not Frontpaged ( ) Frontpaged by ________________
Where the default would be "don't care."

As far as a use for it, it would come in handy when you find yourself looking for a specific node that you are pretty sure was frontpaged (as I did.) Once it is there, I expect it would be used more as it would give people another way to reference their favorite nodes. Imagine being able to say, "Oh! So-And-So frontpaged a good node on that topic last year but I forget what it was called. It should be easy to find with Super Search though."

Well even without the frontpaged bit there are two pieces of information to search with, possibly three. I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely that somebody would remember who frontpaged a node, as opposed to the node title or some key words or authors of replies.

I haven't spent much time around here yet, and I've barely used the Super Search provided, but may I ask why you would need to be able to search based on who frontpaged a post? I could see the 'Frontpaged Nodes' restriction, though even this could be stretching the limit of usefulness. If you know the subject matter of the post in question, I'm sure you won't have difficulties tracking down the post with the current features offered. Honestly, if you remember the name of the user who frontpaged a node, then I'm sure you would also be capable of remembering the post word for word.

I'll mention again that this idea occurred to me on an occasion where I would have found it very useful. The it-wouldn't-be-useful camp just hasn't found a need for it yet. By that, I don't mean to imply you will definitely find a need for it in the future; I'm just saying that your assertion is based on expectation rather than experience. The other point I've attempted to make is that once a particular feature is available, some may find it useful in ways that they never knew they would.

That's simply not a reasonable perspective. The human mind works in mysterious ways.¹ It's funny what we involuntarily commit to memory and why. For instance, six months from now I might still remember that Louis_Wu frontpaged this node just because of the content of the node and the fact that he mentioned he did so in the CB. You might remember that Louis_Wu frontpaged it because I've mentioned it here in this reply to you.

      1. Mixed metaphor? You decide. :-)
