wohl has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

make test hangs for me at the ext/Encode/t/Unicode................. test. This is for perl 5.8.0 in /usr/ports/lang/perl.5.8 under freebsd 5.0 current. Has anyone seen this and/or a cure for it/

    I've looked at that test file, and I don't see any good reason for it to hang.

    The only suggestions I can think of right now:

    • Run the test directly (run ext/Encode/t/Unicode.t with the built perl 5.8.0 executable) to see where exactly it hangs
    • Google to see if others have the problem too

      He's talking about perl 5.8.0 itself; and in particular the Encode module that is included with it.
