I never stop to see the PAUSE logo (yes the image in the top left corner is the logo, paste the mouse over to see).

Who made that?! What is that?! Is the strangest logo of ever!

Some one can comment about this?

It's the musical symbol for a whole (IE 4-beat, normaly) rest, or pause. (I'm sure I made at least one musical error, which no doubt somebody who knows what they're talking about will correct in short order.)

theorbtwo hit it in one. It is the symbol used on a musical score to indicate a pause in the music. It also never fails to put a smile on my face whenever I log in to the Perl Authors Upload Server. The logo has a subtlety and elegance that, for me, typifies some of the best things about the Perl community.

O, yes! Is the pause for music! Now I remmember, but I prefer to play music, not to read... ;-P

      Now everything make sence...

    A pedant writes:
Actually a pause and a rest are two completely different things.

    (1) A rest (which is what the logo is) means "don't play for (x) beats". A pause (or strictly speaking, a 'fermata') is for *an indefinite time period* - generally decided by the conductor.
    (2) A pause *is applied* to either notes or rests. It may actually mean "keep playing this note for a bit" (think Beethoven's fifth - "da da da DAAAAHHHH" - that last note is a two-beat note with a fermata above it).
    (3) A rest generally is for a single part - other people may still be playing while you're resting. Usually, a pause applies to the whole ensemble.

The symbol for a pause is a semicircle with a dot inside it *above* the stave, like an eyebrow (the smiley version would be "(." ), which I personally think would make for a better logo :)

    Sorry to nitpick :)

You are right in the strictest sense, but I do agree with the earlier reply that asserts the subtlety of the logo. I likes it :-).

      --rjray

If subtle means "completely the wrong thing" - if it were the "Ruby Editors Software Tree" or something, it'd be OK :) A nicely drawn pause symbol would be soooo much prettier & nicer & simpler & neater & more meaningful and even more subtle, as evidenced by the fact that most people don't know what it is<g>

I'm almost tempted to drag out the GIMP and do one myself (being English, I almost said 'knock one out', but I'm aware of the connotations thank you...)
Thanks for the deep description. Is good to know that we have peoples with your knowledge around the monastery. But the logo was already there, can't be changed! At least they are similar.

Now, knowing the meaning, the logo was a good idea, and funny! ;-P
