dogbert has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi fellow monks, I am going to write a smiple ftp cleint for my self. So I can learn to do it and because I want to. What I was wondering is should I use the NET::ftp or should I do the ftp through the LWP mod? What I want is a simple ftp cleint that gives you a number based menu system and lets the user's tell it what files the want to either get or put and to where. Which would be best? or does it really matter? thanks

Go with Net::FTP - that gives you full access to the available FTP commands, which LWP won't give you. LWP will do what a typical web wowser also does: connect, fetch a resource, disconnect. You can't put files with FTP/LWP for instance.

Of course, all of that should have been clear had you looked into the manual pages....

Yea I read that shortly after posting. I looked over the net::ftp before I looked over the lwp. sorry
