Anonymous Monk has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi Monks,

after some time I've got now a program d2s that maps DDE to a Socket. I think this solution is better that Win32::DDE, which seems to have problems with the advise-order to DDE.

Anyway it's open source and here is the link (but it is not ready yet and the the helpfile is only in german - I'll translate it): http://www.tu-chemnitz.de/~heha/messtech/d2s.zip

But here is my question: Within my little-Linux-LAN is that Win2K-pc. I can ping any pc within that LAN from the Win2K-pc, I can ping any pc but Win2K from all the other Linux-pc. All pc are defined in host with IP-Addr - full-name, short-name.

I think I have to change s.th in Win2K (prg-services: which, where, to what) to make Win2k to allow that access to the socket at this pc.

Can one please help me as I have no idea about Win2k, but I have to have it.

Thanks in advance,
Carl

Edit by tye, make the "link" a link

I don't really think that this qualifies as a perl question, but hazzarding a guess, it sounds for all the world like the win2k box has a local firewall set up to stop it from responding to pings. This would also explain the inability of the other machines to connect to your socket.

I can't advise further on how to configure the firewall as it will depend which one it is. It would probably not be appropriate here anyway.

      You are right,
It's not pure Perl, but all is done to access Win-DDE by my Perl-Program - and I couldn't.

I've found it, the problem was I thought I set up the correct IP-Addr, but for what ever reason, it didn't came out like that. Now it's working, Sorry, for being off topic and thanks for your patience,
