I don't really think that this qualifies as a perl question, but hazzarding a guess, it sounds for all the world like the win2k box has a local firewall set up to stop it from responding to pings. This would also explain the inability of the other machines to connect to your socket.

I can't advise further on how to configure the firewall as it will depend which one it is. It would probably not be appropriate here anyway.

You are right, It's not pure Perl, but all is done to access Win-DDE by my Perl-Program - and I couldn't. I've found it, the problem was I thought I set up the correct IP-Addr, but for what ever reason, it didn't came out like that.
