Keyboard settings and the Windows DOS prompt

grackle has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

This isn't a Perl problem, but it is making it very unpleasant for me to program Perl in Windows.

My problem is the MS-DOS prompt window. I use the Dvorak keyboard, but the MS-DOS prompt seems to ignore the Windows keyboard settings, forcing me to adjust my typing every time I switch between the prompt and the editor. I enter a lot of commands like

rdop ', mtrosuerp

This is bugging the heck out of me! Please help!

Thanks! The dvorak.com file didn't work (ran, but had no effect) but your link led me straight to a Microsoft solution that did work. It's too bad Microsoft had to insult me in the documentation: "Microsoft distributes Dvorak keyboard layouts that make the most frequently typed characters on a keyboard more accessible to people who have difficulty using the standard 'QWERTY' layout." I guess Linux, MacOS, and other non-MS operating systems "make the frequently used features of an operating system more accessible to people who have difficulty using the standard 'Microsoft Windows' OS."
