in reply to Where can I find Win32::AdvNotify

If you havn't already located this then I did find a copy at Win32-AdvNotify.

I just installed this manually (copy 3 files to the appropriate places) and tried the console demo from the embedded html file and it ran flawlessly under 5.8/NT. There's no source code for the dll, so if the author has disappeared, we're in the lap of the gods shoudl it break though.

I'm afraid the link you provided isn't valid anymore...

That is unfortunate, I can only say that it was valid when I posted it. The author seems to have dropped of the net and taken the source code with him.

That said, from some of the stuff you have posted in other threads, I was under the immpression that you had already aquired a copy?

If I understand your problem, I can solve it! Of course, the same can be said for you.

Yes I did acquire a copy from the idnopheq repository but in the meantime I upgraded to Perl 5.8. This caused my program to crash (ie Mr Watson dropped in on me) even before it started. I thought at first that Win32::GUI was the cause to all my trouble, but reinstalling it didn't solve anything - I then reinstalled Win32::OLE and any other suspicious-looking package until I wanted to reinstall AdvNotify
A first problem arose when I realized that the commands given to install the new repository were correct in Perl 5.6's ppm but not in the latest one, and then after I'd installed the repository, it still didn't find the file...
I finally managed to download a copy, change a couple things and install it using my local drive as a repository.

Then finally it worked !!! Or almost... Now I'm trying to solve another problem - it seems like in Perl 5.8 there's a maximum length for GUI widgets - but that's another problem, probably a new node anytime soon.

Your link is broken because Geocities considered whoever hosted this file to have breached the user's terms and agreement contract...
