We have been sleeping, all of us. Waiting for Perl 6 was not a good idea, since it has been available in The Netherlands for some time at ActiveISP!

Perl was introduced to the computing world in 1988 as Perl1. Since then we have seen both Perl5 and, most recently, Perl6 being released.

Don't you just love those marketing people? :-)

We have? Dammit, why don't people tell me these things? :)

Guess that means I can take a vacation now...

With code like that they have posted ... no wonder Perl gets such a bad rap. Somebody needs to point out the CPAN to those people. For no better reason than being bored on a Monday, here is a rewrite of that awful date example:
    #!/usr/bin/perl -T use strict; use warnings; use CGI qw(:standard); use Time::Piece; print header, start_html('a better time script'), p('The date is ', localtime->strftime('%D')), p('The time is ', localtime->strftime('%r')), end_html, ;

    L-LL-L--L-LL-L--L-LL-L--
    -R--R-RR-R--R-RR-R--R-RR
    B--B--B--B--B--B--B--B--
    H---H---H---H---H---H---
    (the triplet paradiddle with high-hat)

Of more concern is the fact that their form submission script, /scripts/sendformmail.dll, referenced in the linked page can be employed as a spam relay - The actual script comes from CodeWarriors, http://www.codewarriors.com.

      :-(

      perl -le "print+unpack'N',pack'B32','00000000000000000000001010000101'"

Well, ActiveASP ...ehr... ActiveISP does not have a very good reputation over here. They took over one of the worst Dutch internet providers, LaDot. Obviously, they are not to be taken too seriously... (I wonder if they do that themselves, with imitating April 1st and all that). They just announced they are going to support MySQL and PHP real soon now!

Update: made the node a bit less insulting and harsh.

And it's not even April 1st. Is there a Dutch prank holiday that I'm not aware of? ;)

There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling now.

The existance of the Netherlands and the Dutch is one big prank. It also shows that if there's a god, it's a mean spirited one.

I'm not sure what that means for the rest of the World According To Abigail. ;-) Probably something good! ;-)

There are only two things I can't stand: those who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Is it just me or is announcing the release of an unfinished Perl version using ASP quite ironic?

Gotta love that open spam DLL thingy too. You can even use CRLF . CRLF to get their spam out of the way. Sigh...

Update: I decided to call them, to get this spam thing offline. That was funny. "You are connected to a telephone answering machine. End of message." (connection terminated). Friendly, very friendly.
