OS X USB input

puran_bair has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear monks,

Could you please advise me on how to read a USB port in OS X ? OS X (Panther) doesn't seem to have Device::SerialPort. Instead it has Serial Driver. How do I access that by perl?

Or is there an easier way to read a continuous stream of data coming in from a sensor to my USB port?

I found a news at OS X HAX you could be interested. i'll give you a copy'n'paste: This is extremely good news! It means that if you install the MacOS X driver, you'll wind up with a /dev/tty.usbserial-mumble device. There are perl scripts that can talk to this device to run the XMPCR from the command line. merely a lucky google search. i gave a look on linked pages about the driver, but seemd too difficult to me :) good luck, and let me know... maybe i'll have to play with usb device on my iBook	[reply]
