I'm glad you like Perl Monks, but I don't see what such a "vote on this site!" page could accomplish. Most of the "Top 100" sites I've seen are garbage. The sites at the top usually coerace their users into voting for them, thus nullifying their value. I'm sure there are good sites in there somewhere, but it's hard to get through the list to find them (especially if you get into an Evil Popup Cascade without blocking software). At best, you can only consider such sites as a collection of links--which is better done by looking at Google's Directory, or just looking at links on blogs/homepages.

I'll agree with the rest.. 'vote for this site' buttons appear to be more for people/sites desperately seeking attention, something which we are not.. If people want to come, they will come, we don't need to go out there and find them.
Likewise the 'list of other good sites', we link to CPAN, Everything and various other Perl related places, I don't think theres any call to start up links to completely unrelated places. Except maybe unless they want to pay for advertising (funding++)
<plug>I've created a CGI recently which provides a list of things people have linked to in the CB here, the only form of ranking is the number of people that have linked to each exact url, I could add another, should people wish it. (Though one could as well use stumbleupon.com or similar for that)</plug> Anyway, such things are probably better externally..

Vote for each and every Monk, who forms this great community!
The number one thing made this site a success, is we monks, including you yourself.
You make this site a success, by asking questions, answering questions, sharing your thoughts, chatting in the CB and etc.
It is like growing a snow ball, you have good people around here, and more good people will come. Without people, a BBS is just a BBS.

I will take the concept and turn it other way around.
How about Perl Monks rating the other tech sites, especially who have achieved some good level here.
The benefit is obvious. It will tell us which other sites are out there which are helpful to Perl Monks. There could be 5 votes, for example to allow the site to enter for voting.

I never really thought of Perl Monks as a 'technical support' site. Having worked a technical support job, I know that many people doing that kind of work hate their job, hate talking to the stupid customers who don't know how to double click, and loathe coming in everyday to deal with the crap. Perl Monks is the antithesis of that atmosphere; members of this community love adding useful (and not so useful) information to the site, enjoy answering all but the most idiotic questions, and frequent the site daily. In my world, to call Perl Monks 'technical support' is nearly an insult. Perl Monks is led by some of the most intelligent people, who are cool enough to throw a bone to others who aspire to their expertise.
