What puzzles me the most about the question is why you'd specifically want to use the regex engine for this problem. It doesn't seem like a really bad fit, but it's not a particularly good one either. I'd be more inclined to use some multilevel hash entanglement to attack this problem domain.

I've certainly tried a multi-level hash structure, but I started to get too complicated. When you say "entanglement", though, it makes me think you are implying superpositions. I've never actually tried that route. Very interesting idea, though. Cheers, Ovid New address of my CGI Course.	[reply]

Actually that didn't even occur to me. I just meant multiple hashes forming a crossreference mesh. But if the Q::SP route seems viable, why not.. :) Makeshifts last the longest.	[reply]
