in thread Avoiding "brain drain" in the corporate realm

All true, I meant enjoying the corporate/management type stuff more. I despisebackstabbing and hostility... the importance is staying tactful and doing "your job", which is a little hard when different people think "your job" is too many different things. That, and I need to start making (as previously mentioned) cooler wooden chairs :) A few random quotes come on my mind.

"Tact is telling some one to go to Hell and making them want to go" -- (not sure who)

"I don't need so much to remember, that's how it is when you tell the truth" -- Van Halen.

If you actually do enjoy it, then go for it. The world needs as many intelligent and tech-savy managers as it can get. But you may find that 15-20% will be even less the deeper you get into the world of management. Now I am not just "management" bashing here, I spent quite a while being "management" and still have to act like it sometimes too. But personally, I love to code, and I have actually taken pay cuts to make sure that I get to do more coding and rather than managing, because truthfully I don't enjoy it. Sure it might cap my salary to do that, but I am a much happier person :)

    Disclaimer:
Of course I dont recommend getting yourself "demoted" and truth be told that was not too long after 9/11 at a job in Lower Manhatten, so I was certainly somewhat "emotionally clouded". But hey, I decided I would rather be happy then rich, and so far its worked out.

I'll take your Van Halen and see you one Ramones ...

"Tweny, Tweny, Tweny Four hours tah go-uh-oh, I wanna be sedated!"
    - Joey Ramone

    And one Run DMC ...

"I'm the King Of Rock, there is nuttin higher! Sucka MCs should call me sire! To burn my kingdom you must use fire! I won't stop rockin till i retire!"
    - Darryl McDaniels

I'm with you on the pay cut deal. I'd take $5k less to have more fun. If only I could find a job that would have me :) Not a big fan of Dire Straits, but I want to "that ain't workin', that's the way you do it" eventually.
