Yeah, I hear ya. Most Perl coders that I know tend to have an opinion of PHP like "Meh, I don't get the hype, all of this stuff is just as easy in Perl", while most PHP guys are like "PERL SUCKS FYAD." But, whatever.

As a primary langauge PHP programmer, I would have to comment here that PHP progammers tend to regard Perl with the fascination of a child staring into a tank: It's big, it's powerful, it can really get the job done... but how the hell do I get started with it?
Perl code, from the outside, looks to be a convoluted mess. It's only when you get into it you see what it's mean to be: A simplified Practical Extraction and Reporting Language.
PHP/FI was just meant to intepret forms.
Huge difference in the origins of these two.
I don't think anyone I've ever seen has said "Perl Sucks FYEH" (What in the world is a FYEH?) but rather is more intimidated by it.

FYAD. Its rather vulgar, so I'd rather not repeat it here or risk about ten thousand downvotes, but I can message you what it means if you'd like. Or, just google for it. :)
