And what that does is create an anonymous array from the list between the brackets and return a reference to it. So: 
my @array = qw/1 2 3 4/;
myfunc( \@array );

[download]
and 
myfunc( [ qw/1 2 3 4/ ] );

[download]
are functionally equivalent.
