I was talking to two friends of mine (one a CS student, the other a sysadmin),
and I was spouting off about how great Perl is. They told me that Perl is a bad language to start in and that I would regret it later. They said that, "when you program in Perl, you don't actually *see*
what is going on." Apparently, Perl is too forgiving if you screw up.
What do you guys think about this? I am happy learning Perl as my first language, but I am also wondering if their points are valid.
