A few days ago, there was a discussion in the module-authors mailing list regarding a soon-to-be-uploaded alternative to Net::iCal which would handle contacts and events. A CPAN search of 'iFile' or 'vFile' would give you a hit once the module is uploaded.

I am sorry to be so vague, but at the time I was not paying too much attention to said discussion. Perhaps you could also look at the archives for more information.
