I've wasted far too much time scribbling new translations of
grooks, but I won't subject you to them all...
But I'm quite pleased with this one, in a slightly different style.
Like the others, it's not so keen on -w... so if anyone's got
any suggestions for improvements, please let me know!
$miracle = <<GROOK;
THE MIRACLE OF SPRING
by Piet Hein (in Grooks, 1966)
translated into Perl by osfameron (hakim\@earthling.net)
We glibly talk
of nature's laws
but do things have
a natural cause?
Black earth turned into
yellow crocus
is undiluted
hocus pocus
GROOK
# # #
we: print GLIBLY
$of. $natures {laws};
but: exists $things
{'natural cause'} ?
s(Black earth) #into
(yellow crocus) :
$is {undiluted},
$hocus_pocus++;
# # #
print $miracle if $hocus_pocus;
Cheerio!
