I don't know if it pays to learn Perl just to modify one script. Anyhow, if you do, the language will prove to be useful in many other circumstances probably.

The resources are many: look at the tutorials here on PerlMonks, and browse http://www.perl.com. If you need books, you can find some excellent ones here. If you like to contact other Perl coders in your area, then visit http://www.pm.org.
