It might be more interesting to ask what other languages the Monks speak/read/write and how well. I suggest the following scale:

• Native: Well, your mother tongue
• Near-Native: Very few errors, passes as a native with non-natives
• Good: No too many mistakes
• Fluent: Has no trouble communicating any idea
• Basic: Can get the gist of most conversations

I suggest this because the information might be useful for i18n efforts.

And in this spirit:

• Native: North American English
• Near-Native: German, French, English English ;)
• Good: Spanish, Italian
• Fluent: Portuguese, Catalan
• Basic: Dutch

Yes, I know. A lot of you have looked at my code and must have wondered what I was doing with all my time because I certainly wasn't learning Perl. Now you know I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to languages. ;)
