Maybe there's been a discussion here and I've missed it. I'm not sure if I'm meditating or seeking wisdom on this one but ...

What exactly is the point of Acme::Current?

On a superficial level I guess I can answer that myself: it returns today's date - for some loose definition of 'today' that doesn't fit with my timezone and is unlikely to be compatible with your CPAN mirror's sync schedule.

On a deeper level, I'm still struggling to see the point. It's not unknown in these hallowed halls for people to be accused of wasting space on CPAN but surely setting up a cron job to upload a new version of a module every day is doing exactly that?

Ahh here's a theory ... some script kiddie has hacked merlyn's PAUSE account and is taunting him daily.
