Is Perl such an underdog that we need to make mention of this? I mean, why don't we call this a "success story" and post an article about it on perl.com?

When Perl powers Mars rover missions, as Java does, then call me. I am hoping you find my reply provocative and not harsh. Think about what is implicit in your post.
