One for the students out there.

Google are running a program called Summer of Code where there offering 4500 USD to develop open source software. More info on the participant FAQ.

The Perl Foundation appears to be one of the mentoring organisations (they get 500 USD per project).

I know four and a half grand (even if it's that silly American stuff :-) would have made been darn useful back when I was a student - and that's when it was a lot of money! So take a look.
