Thinking about [id://Erudil]'s famous letter, 1st Monasterians, I thought it would be fun to adapt the Beatitudes to PM:
- Blessed are the poor in XP, for theirs is the thrill of rapid level advancement (Voting/Experience System).
- Blessed are they who weep in frustration, for they will be shown Categorized Questions and Answers.
- Blessed are the meek, for they will make PerlMonks a kindly and welcoming place.
- Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for understanding, for they will be thoroughly satisfied by Super Search.
- Blessed are the merciful, for they will not have their errors rubbed in their faces. Or at least not very much.
- Blessed are the pure of heart, for they will be loved by nearly everyone.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will avert many flamewars.
- Blessed are they who are persecuted while trying to help, for their XP will eventually flourish.
- Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you because of your code, for you will learn and ultimately become Saints in our Book.
Of course, after I wrote this, it occurred to me to search, and behold, [id://zdog] came up with this idea (PM Beatitudes) first, more than five years ago.
I guess the writer of Ecclesiastes was correct in that "there is nothing new under the sun". But it seems to me one extra beatitude is needed:
- Blessed are they who do not take themselves too seriously, for they shall have fun.
Loosely adapted (with apology) from the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5.
