I could be wrong, but I don't believe there is any money changing hands for that banner add.

The Everything Enging is developed by Vroom among other saints here. So for a while they were bouncing adds between here and Everything2. That certainly didn't cost anyone anything (for banner ads anyway) since the same people own both sites.

AnimeFu is owned by Commander Taco (of Slashdot) and Kurt The Pope. I don't know if they did any work on Everything, but my impression is these people are all good buddies, and are probably just being friendly.

This means that Perl Monks isn't making any money from banner ads, and is probably just a demo of the Everything Engine. Although I'm sure it would be nice if they could sell a few Banner Ads as well. ;)

This is all speculation of course; The closest I've been to any of these people is to see Vroom at in the Other Users box. ;)
