I don't think we need to start a new poll ideas quest every year, that'd just make it difficult to find old poll ideas both for those who want to check for a dupe poll idea and the pollsters who set up polls.

I petitioned the gods for a new poll ideas thread in 2007 because the old one was almost as large as the thread that must not be linked. If the thread is so large and loads so slowly, that makes it more difficult to post or read poll ideas and might actually discourage people who would want to post their ideas. The poll ideas quest is an "eternal" thread just like the thread that must not be linked.

See also the other discussion on starting a new poll ideas quest thread.

Update: on the other hand, the 2007 thread is now also getting large, it's nearly half the size of the thread that must not be linked.
