IMO, your friend could have been more friendly ... by recommending Strawberry perl - then you wouldn't have half as many problems.

Having said that, I wonder what you mean by ...100 packages available to me... - AFAIR, there wouldn't be many more you'd be able to see when, using the web browser of your choice, browsing the AS help pages - which document the installed (c/w available for download) library packages.

A user level that continues to overstate my experience :-))
